Detective Turney was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and has resided in Colorado, Washington, Germany and Alaska. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.A. in Psychology in 1995. He moved to Alaska in 1996 and worked as a drug and alcohol counselor with children and adults prior to becoming a Police Officer. Detective Turney graduated from the Interior Alaska Police Academy in Fairbanks in 1998 and in 1999 he was hired as a patrol officer working for the North Slope Borough Police Department. In mid-2003 he was hired by the Palmer Police Department as a patrol officer. In November 2005 was assigned as the department's sole Detective. He designed the new 50th Anniversary Palmer Police shoulder patch. He also is the department historian and authored a 20 page booklet on the history of the Palmer Police Department.
