Sgt. Ketterling grew up in Kansas and Colorado after which he joined the U.S. Army, serving with the 6th infantry division at Ft. Richardson, AK, and the 82nd Airborne Division at F. Bragg, NC. Lance began his career in Law Enforcement in September of 1997 when he joined the Palmer Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer. Following that he served as an Emergency Dispatcher and attended the Anchorage Police Academy in 1998 where he graduated as class valedictorian. He has held positions as a Patrol Officer, Evidence Custodian and, in 2001 through 2002, was attached to the Mat-Su Narcotics Unit where he served in an undercover capacity and received a special commission with the Alaska State Troopers. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in August of 2002 and currently serves as a Department Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer Supervisor, and Armorer.
He has completed tactical training from the FBI, DEA, and Anchorage Police Department. Sgt Ketterling is a graduate of both the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration 85th School of Police Supervision, in Plano, Texas, and the Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety's 250th School of Police Staff and Command. He has a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University.
