Officer Hammons grew up in Stanwood Washington. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from High School. In 1994 he attended the State of Alaska Public Safety Academy in Sitka and started his career in Police work in 1995 when he was hired by the Haines Police Department where he stayed for seven years. Officer Hammons was then hired by the Palmer Police Department in 2002. He currently is a Field Training Officer, and member of the State of Alaska Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), as the Counter-Sniper Element Leader and Assistant Team Leader.
