Alaska’s law on Child Passenger Safety (AS 28.05.095):

(a sticker indicating FMVSS 213 compliance is on all approved seats sold).

    • Infants under 1 yr and 20 lbs must ride rear-facing.
    • The recommended national standard is that infants continue to ride rear-facing to the max height & weight range of the child seat.
  • Children over 4 years old must be secured in an approved child safety seat, booster seat or safety belt, whichever is appropriate for the particular child.
    • The national standard recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and accepted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that children age 4-8 yrs old and under 4’9” in height are properly restrained when seated on a Belt Positioning Booster while using the vehicle lap & shoulder belt.
  • The driver of a car is responsible for every passenger under the age of 16.

Car seat checks are also available for free without appointment the 1st Saturday of every month,
